It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Jean Zakshevsky on May 1st. Jean (known as JZ) was a member of our Board of Trustees since our founding in 2016. Jeanine Spencer met Jean Zakshevsky in the 80’s at Underwriters Laboratories in Melville, NY. They became fast friends and over the years they did charity work, crocheting for our Troops abroad, Children’s Hospitals, Nursing Homes just to name a few.
Jean was a stalwart warrior in the battle against cancer, being a two-time breast cancer survivor, sharing her strength and helping many others with their cancer battles.
Jean spearheaded walks and set up groups to raise monies and walks for breast cancer. JZ created and was captain for Team Spencer for our foundation for St. Jude. A wonderful soul who always thought of others first. Her witty humor was always a welcome pleasure.
She was also a dedicated member of the UL Melville Knitting and Crochet Club, and made quite a few of the blankets and hats that The Spencer Foundation donated to WeCare Blankets over the years.
Jean, caring, compassionate, warrior, committed friend who found humor in any situation, she will truly be missed.
