Sometimes little things can make a VERY big difference.  The Spencer Foundation is working with the Child Life Program at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital to keep their cupboards full of new everyday items that just make their patients’ lives a little easier – simple things like clothes, baby toys and art supplies that help reduce stress, minimize anxiety and meet physical, emotional and developmental needs of the children, teens and young adults in their care.

Joan Alpers, Director of Child Life Services, said, “Illness and hospitalization can be very strange and scary for kids. The goal of the Child Life program is to normalize the environment with play, the arts and everyday comforts. Our community donors are integral to helping us soothe and support hospitalized children and their families. The Spencer Foundation has been a stalwart supporter of Child Life at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital.  We are delighted by their ongoing efforts to make life a little easier for every hospitalized child.”

Said Jeanine Spencer, “It is so great to be back working with Joan and the Child Life Staff at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital.   The Child Life Specialists make such a huge difference by bringing smiles to all the children they see.  Can’t wait to help them by making life a little easier by supplying the ‘small stuff’ they need from underwear to shirts and rattles to adult coloring books.”
