It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Fran Spencer, member of our Board of Trustees since our founding in 2016.

Fran was an educator by profession and taught high school English and theater for many years, so she was a strong proponent for developing the Foundation’s scholarship program.  She also founded The Actor’s Workshop, a creative dramatics studio, and was the co-founder, producer and director for Storytime Theater.  Fran also worked as a voice over writer and artist for various Long Island businesses and performed in a radio series for Voice of America radio.  She would go on to work at WRHU 88.7 FM, a non-commercial radio station broadcasting from Hofstra University.  For several years she was a DJ for the Jazz Cafe and host of the morning show.  She was also Executive Producer and host for A League of Our Own, WRHU’s award-winning women’s issues radio show.  One of the highlights of her life was officiating at the marriage of her cherished friends, Jean and Jeanine Spencer.

Said Jeanine, “Fran will be deeply missed by so many.  An angel who was never more deserving of her wings, even though for all of us they came way too soon.”

Fran was full of light, love and laughter and brought a sparkle to everything she did.  The Board will miss her quirky sense of humor and infectious laugh as well as the insight she brought to all of our discussions.
