Jeanine Spencer of The Spencer Foundation and Terrie Magro of the Michael Magro Foundation have teamed up for “Operation: Playcation!” They recently dropped by Stony Brook Children’s Hospital to deliver the first two PlayStation Four (PS4) game consoles in what will be an ongoing campaign to provide each patient’s bedside on our South Pediatric Unit with a PS4 game system fully equipped to help children cope with their hospital stay. What is unique is that the games will be downloaded onto the consoles, eliminating the challenges of managing and disinfecting game discs.

Both the Michael MagroFoundation and The Spencer Foundation support children struggling with treatment and hospitalization due to cancer diagnoses, and understand the need to allow a child to just be a kid.

“Play and distraction are so important to the lives of children with serious illness,” Joan Alpers, Director of Child Life Services added. “We couldn’t do all of the things we do in Child Life to help kids cope without the support of generous donors like Terrie and Jeanine.”

Jeanine Spencer, Terrie Magro and Michael Attard, Child Life Specialist at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, are shown sharing the consoles with two patients.
